She is, however, of Afro-Guyanese descent, meaning that she traces her origins to the enslaved people that were brought to Guyana as Slaves from the coast of West Africa to work on farms.

Coulby Began Her Acting Career at the Age of 21

Angel Coulby was 21 years of age when she launched her career. Her first notable role was in the sitcom ‘Orrible where she played the role of Shiv, appearing in four episodes of the show. The following year, she appeared in an episode of the medical drama Casualty, the TV series Having It Off, and the TV movie A Good Thief. The actress also lanhded her first notable role in theatre as she played Jess in the Royal Lyceum Theatre peoduction of Lavender Blue.

2003 was a slow year for Coulby as she lnded only two minor roles. 2004 was a better year as she appeared in 7 episodes of the Channel 4 comedy program As If, and 6 episodes of the BBC Three show Conviction. Her next reocurring roles were in the 2005 ITV crime drama series Vincent where she played the charcater Gillian Lafferty and appeared in 7 episodes, and the 2007 TV series The Visit where she played the charceter of Rachael and appeared in 6 episodes. Her Role in Merlin Brought Her Wide Fame

Angel Coulby landed what turned out to be her career-defining role in 2008 when she was cast to play Gwen, also known as Guinevere, in the BBC One fantasy TV series, Merlin. Her character entered the story as a humble maidservant before eventually rising to become the Queen of Camelot.

Speaking about who her character was on the show, Coulby described Gwen as “a moral compass”. She said Gwen always did the right thing and was quite a good role model. Coubly appreciated the range her character allowed her to play; rising from being a servant to becoming a queen. Having to embrace and portray all these different aspects of one character in a show made it very interesting and challenging for her.

Coulby certainly did a very good job as she was noted as the favorite actress in Merlin. This was evident when she was in 2010 nominated for the Golden Nymph Outstanding Actress in Drama Series award at the Monte Carlo TV Festival Awards. She appeared in all but 4 episodes of the show – 61 out of 65 episodes.

Angel Coulby’s Love Life Has Been a Mystery

Since Angel Coulby’s appearance in Merlin, interest in her personal life has gone through the roof. Fans and gossip blogs have particularly clamored to find out details about her love life. The quest for information about who Angel is dating has inspired many rumors about her.

It was once reported that she had gotten married while a later report said that she was engaged. None of these stories have however proved to be factual. The only possible truth that has been reported about her love life was that she and her Merlin co-star, Bradley James, who was also her character’s love interest on the show, were once romantically involved.

Were Angel Coulby and Bradley James Ever an Item?

The pair were widely reported to have been together around 2011 after falling in love on the set of Merlin. But as it is with every other thing in her personal life, Angel Coulby remained tight-lipped about the relationship. Neither she nor James confirmed if they were an item even though they were spotted a couple of times out and about.

Whatever it was that the duo had going on between them later fizzled out as James has since reportedly moved on. He is said to be engaged to a woman identified as Jay Ellen.

Who is the Father of Angel Coulby’s Son?

In October 2019, when discussing the effects of climate change and how it ruins the world for children and future generations, Angel Coulby revealed that she was now a mother. The actress had given birth to a son whose name was not revealed a year earlier in 2018.
Because she barely uses social media and only does so when lending a voice to socio-political issues, not much is known about her son and who his father is. Many publications have erroneously written that her baby’s father is Bradley James but this does not appear to be true. The identity of her son’s father is not known.
