Kadri then participated in the 003 All-Ontario Peewee Championships held in Markham, Ontario. Along with the 2005 All-Ontario Championships in Thunder Bay. Before eventually starting his junior career in Ontario Hockey League.

Kadri suited up for the Western Conference as Kadri was picked to play in the OHL All-Star Classic. Then he was again traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs with whom he signed a three-year, entry-level contract on July 6, 2009.

However, Kadri returned to Team OHL after being cut from the team and was selected to play in the 2009 Subway Super Series. On March 30, 2010, Kadri was named the CHL Player of the Week after recording nine points (two goals and seven assists) in three games. The OHL named Kadri the league’s Player of the Month for April 2010, a month in which he recorded 26 points (9 goals and 17 assists) in 10 games.

He finally made his professional debut with the Toronto Maple leafs. But he failed to reach the standard of head coach Ron Wilson’s expectation, the young Kadri was returned to the Knights. However, he ultimately returned to the Knights before the start of the NHL regular season.

Kadri was called up to the Maple Leafs on an emergency basis, making his NHL debut on February 8, 2010, against the San Jose Sharks. He recorded his first NHL point against the Nashville Predators. Following his first NHL career goal against Boston Bruins, Nazim was named to the AHL All-Star Game.

In the 2012-13 season, Kadri made the starting roster for the Leafs against the Montreal Canadiens. He kept progressing and scored his first career hat trick in a match against the New York Islanders.

After his stellar performance and progress, the Leafs signed Nazim under a two-year contract worth $5.8 million. Kadri ended the season with 39 points in 73 games, leading all Toronto Centers in goals.

Kadri set a league-leading best of 49 penalties, including 45 points and 28 assists. In 2017 he scored his 100th career NHL goal against the Calgary Flames.

Finally, after spending ten years with the Leafs, Nazem was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on July 1, 2019. Kadri and Callie Rosen were exchanged for Tyson Barrie, Alexander Kerfoot, and a sixth-round pick in 2020.

For the 2021–22 season, the NHL returned to its normal competition structure. It would be Kadri’s best season to date, as he scored 28 goals and recorded 59 assists, setting new bests in assists and total points. For the first time in his career, he scored over a point per game. Kadri won the Stabley Cup with Colorado Avalanche in 2022.

As a result of his strong play throughout the final season of his contract, there was considerable discussion around Kadri’s next contract, with many speculating that he would be too expensive for the Avalanche to re-sign. On August 18, 2022, Kadri signed as a free agent to a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Calgary Flames.
